Sadly, we now have George W. Bush, Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh making our case to the public.

And we are wondering why we are becoming less and less popular here on the right.

Machiavelli,

Would add Charles Krauthammer and Nobel economist, Edmund Phelps to your list.

Conservative groups are also rising on campuses where 15 years ago were bastions for the left. At the University of California at Berkely, the largest student group is a club of Republicans. They use humor to illustrate their ideas...like having a conservatives coming out of the closet parade or having an affirmative action bake sale with sliding pricing scale for pastries (ie. $10.00 for a danish for a white male).

When one reads the Introduction to Freedom and Capitalism by Milton Friedman, one appreciates how marginalized conservative ideas and classical economics were at one time. A handful of intellectuals kept the ideas of free market economics alive.

Fears of globalization and the change from a manufacturing to a knowledge based economy are really what drives people to reject conservatism. Once people learn that trade creates enhanced opportunities and that a child today has more opportunities than at any time in history, they will be more responsive to conservative ideology.
